Una de las características de la propaganda es utilizar lo que se denomina “La Gran Mentira” con el objetivo de presentar los hechos distorsionados para así ganar adeptos contra algo o alguien. Este es uno de los principios que creó y perfeccionó Joseph Goebbels, ministro de Propaganda del régimen de Adolfo Hitler, cuyo principio aún hoy sigue vigente.
Debido al perfeccionamiento de las técnicas de propaganda, resulta difícil distinguir lo que es información de lo que es propaganda en el conflicto actual.
Aunque técnicamente no sería propaganda lo que realizan los medios alternativos, ya que la Internet no permite la difusión masiva y altamente emocional de un mensaje político, propagación que sí se puede realizar a través de la televisión.
